An individual who contaminated sweets with sleeping medication and gave them to minors at a summer program in the area has admitted sexual offences against two young males aged between nine and ten.

Jon Ruben was detained after eight minors and an older person fell ill at the facility in the summer month.

The senior citizen, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, confessed to a series of 17 offences when he was present at the courthouse on recently.

Yet, he disputed one particular crime he was charged with, which was concerning a nine-year-old child.

Ruben was kept in jail ahead of a further hearing on November 28th.

'Sweet game'

The legal representative, handling the case, outlined the defendant's actions to the legal proceedings.

She explained his victims were disadvantaged youngsters who were staying at a summer camp which he managed.

Ruben played a "sweet game" with the minors, the legal counsel said, in which he would enter the boys' rooms when they were preparing to sleep and tell them to ingest treats "as fast as possible".

She told the court Ruben had conducted this practice with the boys "for many years", and youngsters had previously become sick the following morning.

She said the man had been able to explain this repeatedly as the minors being "overexcited from fun", until his stepson had concerns in summer 2025.

The prosecutor stated further: "This year his stepchild had concerns about the activities, justifiably.

"They decided to have a look in the individual's items."

Mrs Prior KC said objects including infant oil, ointment and medical needles were located, and his stepchild notified the authorities about his concerns.

She explained the man went on to play the "candy game" with six youngsters that evening - July 26th - and they were all ill the next day.

"Authorities" had not arrived by that point," she continued.

The regulatory agency, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, had stated that it was examining Leicestershire Police's handling of the incident.

The legal representative said the children were struggling to walk due to their sickness, so Ruben's stepson called the police once more.

She stated Ruben then engaged in the "candy game" in a room of five youngsters.
